My client had recently moved into a new home and the basement became the dumping ground for everything that there was no room for upstairs. Plus, it needed to be set up and organized for its intended purpose - that purpose being additional pantry storage, a functioning laundry, a workshop, plus storage for out-of-season items, sporting goods and bikes.
I think the photographs speak for themselves. On clever thing we did was to turn a single door closet on its back, removing the interior shelves for now it became a storage chest for sporting goods, balls, bats, racquets, and gloves.
On a very recent visit to help with the attic, they were very proud to show me that the basement had remained in pretty much the same order as when I left it almost 12 months ago. The lesson here is it is much easier to keep control if you have a specific place to put things.
